The M&M Product story began in 1994 with one person, a 10 sqm office and a car. In 1990, when Melinda Mureșan was a recent graduate of the Faculty of Wood Processing, all traditional factories were closing. She started working for a pallet delivery company. There she saw how the goods were packed and palletized, through a new process for the Romanian market.

That’s how she came up with the idea of setting up a business to import films for industrial packaging. At first, she imported goods from a Hungarian company that wanted to expand into a new market. Step by step, Melinda began to build a customer base, and then strategic partnerships with strong suppliers in the region and around the world started to come.

Words from the founder

In the chaos of the 1990s economy, I discovered a new world for me, that of professional packaging. Romanian producers didn’t know anything about this field. The packaging used was rudimentary. . I was fascinated by what I had seen/understood it can be done with the help of modern packaging: ease of transport, protection of goods, security of the product, support of advertising. A whole new world was laying at my feet and I was determined to throw myself into it.

What took me to the business jungle

The need for “survival”. In a world where factories were collapsing one after another and jobs were disappearing, all that I could do – as a 1990 faculty graduate, a year in which the gates of companies were already closing for young graduates, having no work experience – was to draw upon my own resources, to capitalize on my very best: courage, desire for knowledge and adventure, intellectual curiosity, intuition, optimism.

Beyond the need to find my place and income necessary for my existence, was the fascination for innovative products, iinnovative for Romania, which until then had been almost completely closed to them. As an engineer, I loved the solutions that flexible plastic packaging offered. I I was excited about how many operations could be facilitated, improved, how many new ways of use and packaging these products could bring. . I understood how many industries can benefit from them, that there is almost no product that cannot be packaged, that any industry or manufactory can access these products. At foreign fairs, the variety of solutions really overwhelmed me, there were so many things to learn, so many products, solutions that were all attractive; it was like a “huge ocean” of possibilities.

I was driven by the desire to help, to educate, to be useful to those we presented with the new solutions and possibilities I saw the future for them, I saw how they could make their work easier, to have products presented and protected differently. I have never just wanted to trade; I am not mercantile enough or not at all. That’s why I didn’t set up a merchandise-oriented company. My company was focused towards new, towards solutions, innovation, educating the market.

What values do I have. And what principles

Truth, honesty, fairness towards partners and colleagues. Love for the people, care for them, respect.

I believe in our ability to renew ourselves daily, to become better, more performant, more willing to be useful, to serve our partners, colleagues and the community we live in, with all that is best in us.

I am confident in people’s ability to evolve professionally and as a human. I love and cherish people; through them, the company has become one of the leading players in the Romanian high-performance flexible packaging industry. And we will continue to grow.

Lessons. Challenges. Evolution

25 years is a long period of time. I learned a lot of lessons. . Both beautiful, and rough.

I’ve noticed that every time I wanted to do something other than the things I am really good at, I lost. I quickly learned that I needed a team, people to dream with and build with. I also learned that I have to… learn. And to continually improve.

I learned that I have to be patient. . I learned to understand that it is not important what I want, but what is good for us.

I learned to measure my strengths and make big plans, but with a strategy and especially with a great team behind me.

I am still learning.

What's on the horizon

The future will be a responsible one, or will not exist at all.

The field of plastic packaging is endless. Not only is our packaging flexible, this industry is very flexible, creative, constantly innovating, depending on the needs and challenges.

The future lies in responsible consumption, in educating society and our partners to be involved and responsible in the way they manage this gift of science – flexible plastic packaging.

We choose how good or less good the quality of our packaging can be, by the way we decide what packaging we use, how we use it, how we manage it throughout its life cycle, how we reuse it, how we protect the environment. Good or less good is the result of human decisions, not necessarily depending on the product.

For me, the responsible future means: consulting in choosing the packaging responsibly, in offering solutions and green packaging (which are sourced from the nature, nature-friendly), but also informing and educating partners, society. The future means knowledge, innovation, solution, involvement and education.
